Team Formation Policy for Youth Sports

 In Home Page

Purpose:

  • Our seasonal leagues provide a safe recreational setting structured for a beginner to intermediate player. Lead by volunteer coaches, games are noncompetitive in order to emphasize teamwork and physical fitness.
  • It is the goal of BCPR to create competitive balance and a positive experience for all participants in all our youth athletic programs.
  • Teams shall be formed based on total enrollment to ensure an even distribution of players on each roster. BCPR cannot guarantee all requests for a certain team or coach will be granted. BCPR will prioritize family member requests or participants from the same household who are in the same age group who request to play together. However, we will take all requests into consideration.

Selection/Assignment Process:

  • Players shall be assigned or drafted so that age, talent and experience are divided as evenly as possible among teams. In some age divisions, players may be asked to participate in a skills assessment, so that BCPR staff and coaches can use these evaluations to assist in distributing players fairly.
  • Children of head coaches and approved assistant coaches will always have their child assigned to their team.
  • Final rosters will be determined at our coaches meeting, where the coaches will draft players until all teams are filled. Requests to be on a certain coaches or players team will be taken in consideration but we cannot guarantee these requests will be granted.
